Five cultural institutions, from across the United States, have been named the winners of the OnCell QR Tour Contest. The winners will receive a free QR Tour and Mobile Web Service for one year, beginning in June 2011. The QR Tour & Mobile Web affords visitors a multimedia experience complete with audio tour content, logos, images, a tour map, text captioning and GPS-navigational features. Below are the 5 winning organizations: Missouri State Museum: Jefferson City, Missouri Anacostia Trails Heritage Area: Hyattsville, Maryland Michigan Historical Museum: Lansing, Michigan Alcatraz Island: San Francisco, California Historic Elk Landing Foundation: Elkton, Maryland The free QR Tour & Mobile Web Service award will enable winning organizations to offer their visitors an interpretive mobile tour experience accessible by smartphone complete with tour content, logos, images, video, a tour map, text captioning and GPS-navigational features. Visitors carrying Smartphones will simply scan the QR code and stream the OnCell Tour. The QR Tour links to OnCell's Mobile Web Site, which features interpretive content of leading museums, National Parks, galleries, historic sites, CVBS, zoos, aquariums and more. In addition to Mobile Web, OnCell also offers cell phone audio tours, Smartphone applications, mobile web tours, texting games, mobile giving, captioning for the hearing-impaired, geo‐tagging, and a survey/comment line. The ease of access to tour content through the visitor’s own mobile device allows visitors to tailor a tour to their own interests by self-selecting content.
