Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield has introduced a new way to tour the park — using your cell phone.
Twelve stops on the tour road, Ray House and on the Bloody Hill Trail have been developed for the tour. Signs are posted at the individual locations.
The tour starts by calling 417-521-0055. Then dial the stop number from the sign to receive an audio message that provides interesting facts and fascinating stories about the battle, the men who fought it, and the people living in the area near Wilson's Creek at the time, according to a news release. Sponsored by Eastern National, a National Park Service partner, additional cellular phone tour stops are under development.
Visitors can also leave comments about their experiences a the battlefield and the tour by pressing *0 at the end of any segment. Standard minute usages apply based on your cell phone service provider.
Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield preserves and commemorates the first major battle of the Civil War in the West. Administered by the National Park Service, the 1,920-acre battlefield is located 10 miles southwest of Springfield, at the intersection of ZZ Highway and Farm Road 182.
