Twelve historical locations throughout the village and town are clearly marked with white-framed signs giving clear and easy instructions as to how to access the historical information. The 12 sites include: the Covered Bridge, the Iron Fireman, the District 19 School House and the Lower Mill. Additional sites will be added on a periodic basis. The historical tour is powered by OnCell, a mobile tour provider in Pittsford, NY, which works with hundreds of cultural sites around the country to enhance the visitor experience with interactive mobile tour solutions. OnCell's services allow Honeoye-Mendon visitors to dial the tour number, 585-797-6311, using their cell phones, and enter the appropriate stop numbers which are found on the signs placed throughout the community. This mobile tour is set up to be used at the visitor's own time and pace, for example, as a walking tour. Honeoye Falls-Mendon Rotary Club provided the funding to get the program off the ground. This new cell phone tour, developed to highlight the community and its cultural significance, is a great activity for families or out-of-town visitors to the Rochester area.
