PONTIAC – The work of some Pontiac Township High School students will be heard by thousands of future visitors to the Livingston County War Museum.

The students have created some audio cell phone tours of the museum, located next to the Route 66 Hall of Fame and the Old City Hall Shoppes.

Eric Sweetwood’s Illinois Studies students have researched various historic museum artifacts and individuals, written scripts and have even recorded MP3 messages, which museum visitors will be able to hear starting in January.

Student Emily Holzhauer said the class has been focusing on all aspects of the museum.

“We always make a couple of visits here per year and I have been here multiple times. All of the veterans here help and it is really a good place to learn,” said Holzhauer.

PTHS student Joseph DeYoung wants to join the military some day – so he really enjoyed his time at the museum.

“It is educational to learn more about what they experienced and everything. What really caught my eye was the bazooka. I have played war games and everything, but I never knew it would be that big,” said DeYoung.

Sweetwood said the class focuses on local history, which is often ignored.

“They did about three weeks of the process, which includes visiting the museum, picking an exhibit, researching that exhibit, then they would write and record a script. It was kind of neat because someone will come into the museum, call a cell phone number and automatically have the stories they have worked on,” said Sweetwood.
