One of the many benefits of visiting a city like Dallas is finding plenty of activities to keep you busy. Every large city has one tourist attraction that is not only off the beaten path, but extremely unique in character. What if a city you thought you knew had five odd tourist attractions? Would you call it a strange city or just a fun place with strange tourist attractions? No one has ever called Dallas a strange city, so luckily you can enjoy these establishments if you’re up for something new the next time you book a flight to Dallas.
JFK Cell Phone Tour (Powered by OnCell): We use our cell phones for everything: they tell us the time, find us directions to the local 7-11 and oh, they are used to make phone calls! At the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas, cell phones are used as part of a walking tour. That's right; visitors may use their cell phones as a guide through the historic location where JFK was shot decades ago. The self-paced tour includes a map and local Dallas number to take you on a one-hour tour down memory lane. The best part, it is similar to the price of an app at less than $3USD!
National Cowgirl Museum: Yee haw! If there is one iconic symbol of Dallas, it is the Cowboy. Yet the ladies at the National Cowgirl Museum have something to say about that. Their museum is dedicated to the attitude, life and spirit of the American Cowgirl. Featured is their large Rotunda Hall where 200 Honorees from the mid 19th century to the present day are exemplified for their individual strengths and stories of the female Cowgirl movement. It is a proud and surprising accomplishment that there is an entire museum dedicated to these nationally recognized Cowgirls.
Hands On: Ready to get your hand on to another strange attraction in Dallas? Literally, the Hands On museum is a small collection of over 100 cast, bronze coated hands. Is it strange that there would be an exhibit at a hospital or that it is a museum of cast iron hands? Some of the life-size hands include those of famous celebrities Katharine Hepburn and Winston Churchill.
Museum of Geometric and MADI Art: If you’ve ever been told to think outside of the box, you might find some helpful inspiration here. Just like the name of the museum says, it is a collection of geometric art. The word MADI, stands for Movimiento Artistico de Invencion, which translates roughly to Artistic Movement of Creation. These ideas stem from Buenos Aires where the movement flourished post WWII.
Zero Gravity Thrill Amusement Park Dallas: Note: This place is not for the faint of heart. If you’re a fan of amusement parks and always wished for a place that only had roller coaster, your dream has come true. Rated one of the top attractions in Dallas, Zero Gravity is the world's only "Thrill Park" Rides include Bungee Jumping and of course, a variety of roller coasters. Open year round for adrenaline seekers, crazy kids and those looking for a true adventure, it definitely is a park for those looking for a challenge. Just make sure to save the lunch for after the rides! Read more here!
